After graduating college, Dana Carvey played comedy clubs in the Bay Area, then moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career.
Dana Carvey made his big screen debut as a mime alongside Billy Crystal in This is Spinal Tap. Dana Carvey then landed a spot on NBC's hit making machine Saturday Night Live . He spent seven seasons, from 1986 to 1992, doing impressions of George Bush, Ross Perot, Dan Quayle, Johnny Carson, Jimmy Stewart, and Woody Allen, to name but a few.
Dana Carvey hosted the 1992 MTV Music Awards. Also in 1992, he co-starred in Wayne's World as Garth Algar, a character he based on his brother, Brad, and portrayed on Saturday Night Live. The movie was an instant smash hit and spawned countless impersonations of Carvey's character Garth. In 1993, Dana Carvey co-starred in Wayne's World 2. Dana Carvey won an Emmy Award in 1993 for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program. He starred in The Dana Carvey Show in 1996.
Dana Carvey has received a total of six Emmy nominations, including one for a guest appearance on HBO's highly acclaimed Larry Sanders Show.
In 2002, Dana Carvey returned to the silver screen in the comedy Master of Disguise.
Dana Carvey is also listed at number 90 on Comedy Central's list of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time.
