Cher was born on Cherilyn Sarkisian on May 20, 1946, in El Centro, California. In the mid-60s' Cher quickly rose to stardom as part of a singing act with her husband Salvatore "Sonny" Bono. Known as Sonny and Cher, the duo sent a song to the top of the charts in 1965 with "I Got You Babe." They also had their own television series, The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, from 1971 to 1974.

Cher and Sonny had a very public divorce in 1975 and Cher set out on her own. Cher continued to sing and recorded several solo albums. Cher reached rocketed to the top of the charts with songs like "Half Breed" and "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves."

Furthermore, during this time Cher would become equally famous for her sexy, barely-there stage outfits.

The 1980s found Cher pursuing her acting career, turning strong performances in films like Silkwood (1983), Mask (1985), and Moonstruck (1987). Cher even received an Oscar nomination for her performance in Silkwood and won a Best Actress Oscar for Moonstruck in the Best Actress category.

Cher released Living Proof in 2002, which featured "Song for the Lonely." This track did well on the dance charts and was written in honor to those affected by the September 11th terrorist attacks. Cher then set off on a 325-date farewell tour that ended in 2005.

NBC aired Cher: The Farewell Tour in 2003 and it won three of six Emmy Awards she was up for that year.

During 2007, in the seventh volume of Chrome Hearts, Cher once again confirmed that she is working on her twenty-sixth studio album. No recordings have taken place as of yet, and no release date has been scheduled.

In 2008 Cher, signed a deal to perform 200 shows over three years live at the Coliseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
